Hi all,

Whoops, I obviously meant to send that to Cindy! In any case, as mentioned in my previous post, Chimney Swifts are still present in Oxford, Nova Scotia and I also received a report of an active roost in St. Martins, NB last week. With post-tropical storm Irene having just passed through last weekend and another storm potentially on the way (Katya) it is worth keeping an eye out for Chimney Swifts that may have been carried north with the storm (or haven't yet departed).

Jim Wolford also posted information last week regarding the September "Swift Night Out" (http://chimneyswifts.org/page7.html ). Although swifts aren't usually found in the Maritimes in very high numbers that far into September, it is worth checking out known or suspected roost sites. Please check out the above link for more details on Swift Night Out.

Hi Cindy, I talked to the homeowners who live beside the Oxford chimney today, and they tell me the Chimney Swifts are still using the chimney even now. Have you seen any Chimney Swifts around Springhill since the spring, and were you able to track them to a roost site? I've found it tricky to locate new roost sites this year, especially with the poor weather we often had when I left work in the evenings!

All the best,

Ally
