Subject: Solitary Sandpipers

There were two Solitary Sandpipers on Sandy Cove's beach, HRM, this morning. Also present were peeps; Least Sandpipers, Semipalmated Sandpipers, Spotted Sandpipers and Semipalmated Plovers.

Earlier in the morning I spent some time with a nice mix of shorebirds at Duncan Reef, including the aforementioned peeps and one Ruddy Turnstone. Duncan Reef is an excellent location to photograph these birds. One just sits on a rock and waits until the birds walk by. They become distracted when feeding on the kelp piles and often come within 5 metres of this observer.
