bject: [NatureNS] Flies on the water=0A=0A=0AHi All=0AThis afternoon BB and=
I went paddling to see about a Ladies-Tresses bed.=0AAs we were getting in=
the canoe, I saw a flock of ducks feeding on the surface=0Aof the lake. Lo=
oked like Mallard ducks but might have been a few Blacks also.=0AI thought =
flies right away.=0AWhen we got out in the lake, I realized there was plent=
y of small flies=0Aon the water - maybe up to 10 - 12 per square meter.=0AT=
he flies were just sitting on the surface tension, perhaps 4 cms in length =
as a guess.=0AThey were all black and lively - didn't seem dopey. Would fly=
off if I tried=0Ato catch them. There were a few much larger ones - perhap=
s 1 in 1000 or=0Aeven less.=0ANo fish were feeding on them. I know there ar=
e fish in the lake as I caught=0Aa couple but they didn't seem interested i=
n the ones on the surface.=0AIn the lee of the Islands there was a big floc=
k of them all gathered together=0Aout of the wind. I'm not certain they wer=
e the same species.=0AI've seen these flies before but not often.=0AGlad th=
ey didn't bite!=0AEnjoy the last of the summer=0APaul
