I don't have any of my books right now, but it is one of the
"hornworms", i.e. caterpillars of sphinx moths, also called hawk
moths, Sphingidae family? Take it from there, Jim Edsall or others!
Cheers from Jim in Wolfville. Good sources of caterpillar info' are
cheaply in the Golden Guide to Butterflies and Moths, and in detail
in Wagner's big and gorgeous and hugely informative recent field
guide to caterpillars.
