Irving Environmental Science Building, Acadia =20 University The Bloody Creek Group: Evidence for a Multiple Impact Event in =20 Southwestern Nova Scotia, Canada by Dr. Ian Spooner. The Bloody Creek structure (BCS) is a 0.4 km diameter elliptical =20 structure located near Bridgetown Nova Scotia, confirmed as an impact =20= crater in 2009. In addition to the main crater, a cluster of smaller =20 craters located approximately 1 km north of the BCS have been =20 identified. Together these features comprise the Bloody Creek Group, =20 the 178th known impact structure on the Earth=92s surface. The age of =20= the structure is not known though new evidence suggests the =20 possibility that the impact may post-date the last ice age. If this is =20= true, the event would have had a significant impact on life in =20 Atlantic Canada and beyond. Dr. Spooner will talk about the research =20 that he and his colleagues have been doing at the site over the past =20 four years. He will also bring a meteorite sample from the Barrington =20= Crater and a core from the North Group Crater to his talk. Ian Spooner has been a professor at Acadia in the Earth and =20 Environmental Science Department for the past 17 years. His primary =20 research focus is the reconstruction of past climate using lake =20 sediment and bog records. He presently has active research programs in =20= northwestern British Columbia, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. He is =20 particularly interested in the effects of past global climate change =20 on regional climate systems.
