Sixteen birders, including 2 Americans, boarded the Sambro-based Cape Sable
style boat. We departed at 7:30 am and returned at 1:30 pm. We did not get
as many birds as we had hoped. The conditions were ideal for photography.
Lifers for some. We are doing another pelagic trip on Sept 24 or 25.

We managed to see a variety of bird species including one unusual visitor.
The Northern waterthrush circled our boat once, giving birders a chance to
tick off in their 2011 list! The fulmars lingered on to enjoy photo op and
popcorn. Birds seen were:

100+ Double Crested Cormorants on rocks
6 Northern Fulmars (including two dark morphs)
5 Great Shearwaters
1 Sooty Shearwater
2 Manx Shearwaters
1 possible Cory's Shearwater
1 Skua species
1 Green winged teal
2 Red-necked Phalaropes
5 Great Black backed Gull
20+ Herring Gull
1 Puffin
2 Black Guillemonts (lifer for the Americans)
2 Merlin
1 Northern Harrier
1 Northern Waterthrush
