Greetings,

My colleague Clay Kirby from the University of Maine and I have
recently published a paper:

Majka, C.G., and Kirby, C. 2011. Lily leaf beetle, Lilioceris lilii
(Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), in Maine and the Maritime Provinces: the
continuing dispersal of an invasive species. Journal of the Acadian
Entomological Society 7: 70-74.

It takes another look at the continuing dispersal of the lily leaf
beetle, Lilioceris lilii, in the Maritime Provinces (a subject first
covered in a 2008 paper myself and Laurent Lesage which look at the
biology, phenology, and dispersal history of the species in the
region), as well as in the state of Maine where its dispersal history
has not previously been documented.

The rapid expansion of the range of this species has not slowed in the
past four years and it appears that the Maritime Provinces
"population" of this beetle has merged, or is on the cusp of merging,
with the New England "population."

For those who are interested in more detail, the paper itself is
available online from:

             http://www.acadianes.ca/journal/papers/Majka_LilyB_JAES11-15.pdf

It is, amongst other things, an excellent illustration of the
important role that observations from amateur naturalists and
gardeners can play in studying the dispersal of invasive species.
Studies like this would not be possible without their enthusiastic
contributions. Many thanks to all of the participants!

Best wishes!

Chris
