Hi, James -- we all learned something and a bit more about the  
biodiversity around us, thanks to your report and photos -- I too was  
going to ask you for the latter -- actually these woolly aphids are  
not "just aphids", being relatives of real aphids but in a completely  
separate family with quite a few species -- thus they share some  
things with aphids but are sufficiently different to be classified  
differently -- thanks to Chris Majka for enlightening all of us about  
them and about their interesting symbiosis with ants -- of course  
many real aphids have symbioses with ants too.  Cheers from Jim in
