** THIS WEEK'S SKY AT A GLANCE

Some events in the changing sky for Sept. 30 =96 Oct. 8

On Monday, Oct. 3, the Moon will go into its=20
First-quarter Phase meaning it will rise at noon and set at midnight.

On Saturday, October 1 sunrise was at 7:17 a.m.=20
and sunset at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, October 8=20
sunrise will be at 7:27 a.m. and sunset will be at 6:47 p.m.

This Week's Planet Roundup

MERCURY is hidden in the glare of the Sun.

VENUS (magnitude =963.9) is just above the horizon=20
a little left of due west if you look 15 or 20=20
minutes after sunset. It will be hard to pick it=20
up this early in its apparition compared to the=20
way we will see it as the =93Evening Star=94 blazing=20
high in twilight in the coming months.

MARS (magnitude +1.3) rises around 3 a.m. By the=20
beginning of dawn it's in good view high in the east.

JUPITER (magnitude =962.8) rises in the=20
east-northeast around the end of twilight and=20
blazes brightly in the eastern sky during evening=20
hours. Jupiter shines highest well after=20
midnight, making this the best time to examine it=20
with a birding scope and be able to detect some of its moons as well.

SATURN has disappeared for the season.
