I liked this Paul. Wayne and once had a weasel in our Sandy Point kitchen=

ail tip. It quickly exited the same way. Happy Thanksgiving all.=20

Hi Peter and All
Reminds me of a story a friend tells.
He was sitting watching television one evening and a=20
movement caught his eye. An ermine came bounding down the stairs
quickly followed by a second. They hid behind some furniture
until my friend got the door open. When he moved the furniture
they ran back outside.=20
A great way to rid the house of mice.
Enjoy the fall
Paul

Hi=2C all-
We had a good look at an Ermine (or Stoat) in Waverley this morning. We wer=
e walking on the trail which goes between Shubie Park and Waverley=2C and s=
aw it in a pile of rocks beside the trail=2C about 8m away. It was sitting =
upright with most of its body behind a rock=2C and it had a vole in its mou=
th.
Underneath it was white=3B the rest of the fur was dark. Because of the lig=
hting=2C it was difficult to make out just what colour it actually was=2C b=
ut at this time of year it should be brown.
It seemed wary of our presence but not alarmed. Eventually=2C after looking=
at us for some time=2C it bounded off=2C carrying the prey item. We were a=
ble to see the conspicuous black tip on the tail.
We occasionally see them in winter=2C when they are all white=2C except for=
the tail.=20
This species is native to North America. It has been introduced to some pla=
ces such as New Zealand and Britain with serious negative consequences.
