One trunk down low had a circular fungussy-looking burl with a cavity next to it, and in the cavity looking out was a GRAY SQUIRREL, which I never would have seen unless alerted. The observers said it appeared to take some leaves into the cavity just before. One fellow said he knew of one or more other Gray Squirrels along Oakdene Ave. in Kentville. Also at Miner's Marsh were one pied-billed grebe, no coot seen, 2 mallards (m,f together). common milkweed seeds still being shed from pods (and gorgeous in the Sun), plus blue jays, crows, and apparently no other songbirds (blackbirds, sparrows, etc.). Port Williams sewage ponds: no birds at all. Gesner's Pond (M. Dyke Rd.): 2 hooded mergansers (m,f together). East of Lakeville, I MIGHT have seen a soaring turkey vulture (not quite certain, since bird was distant and high-soaring and seen from moving car. Lakeville/Silver Lake: no geese, 2 hooded mergansers (m,f together), and lots of strikingly beautiful, bright red, wild berries of tall holly shrubs along the lake's shore (latter would be great photo-op on Sunny afternoon.
