The article and photo indicate not a juvenile puffin but a yearling, and I read in one of my field guides that it takes about 5 years for the puffin to grow its full adult beak with sheath. Thus the photo we saw in the Chronicle Herald must have been a different puffin from the one shown via the link below. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
