Hi Folks,

Just realized that, in the hustle and bustle of the Holiday Season, that no one has yet posted any info on the B/S CBC held on Tues Dec 27.
Some highlights are as follows:
 - Red-necked and Horned Grebes, Black Guillemot and Razorbills (2) in the Bedford Basin or Bedford Bay - unusual this far into the Basin.
 - Also seen along the Bedford shoreline - 10 Barrow's Goldeneye, 3 Glaucous Gulls, many Icelands.
 - Northern Mockingbird, Northern Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles and Red-bellied Woodpecker were all observed. In all, 6 woodpecker species were seen.
 - The "Owling Team" tallied 4 species including Long-eared off the Kingswood North Road from Hammonds Plains Rd.

At the post-count tally and pot luck held at Scott Manor House, and organized by Rich Peckham and Maureen Nowlan, the "rough tally" gave 78 species, a new all-time record for the count. And many field and feeder reports are still to be included. We should easily hit 80 species and possibly several beyond that.
It was a great day for the count - not too cold or warm, fairly calm and quite sunny. A nice day to be outside!

Happy New Year to all!

Cheers,

Bob McDonald, co-compiler

  Good afternoon everyone;

  An international team of birders did the inland sector of the West Hants Christmas Bird Count yesterday. I've started an account of our day on my blog:

  CSI: Life

  Good luck to all on the Apple River count tomorrow.

  Cheers,

  Blake
