The hybrid has a pointy tail, which helps to identify it as a mixture of 
pintail and mallard.   I saw it in Bissett Lake once in November.  It is 
interesting to see where it visits!

Interesting! I was leaning towards wigeon because of the general body colour 
(much warmer than a pintail or mallard) and because I've never seen any 
pictures of a mallard x pintail without any white markings on the neck. What 
characteristics pushed the id to a pintail cross?
