JAN. 10, 2012 - Again today there was a single brown-plumaged purple
finch (female or imm. male) at our feeders.

JAN. 12, 2012 - That purple finch above became two purple finches
today. And a flock of waxwings, probably but not definitely cedar
waxwings, visited our yard briefly at mid-day. We have been seeing
cedar waxwings in our neighborhood periodically since Dec. 17/11.
Our yard is loaded with hips of multiflora roses.

At about 3:30 p.m. I checked the Port Williams sewage ponds for the
first time in a while. I carelessly drove right up to the gate, and
of course about 7 diving ducks, no doubt goldeneyes, very quickly
took off and flew to the east. They left behind about 10 mallards
and 3 common goldeneye females or immatures.

Thus it's time to approach the ponds by parking below them, walking
up the hill to the treatment building, and peeking around the edge of
that building to see what is on the northernmost pond.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
