JAN. 24, 2012 - Today at the Port Williams sewage ponds, Andy Dean
photographed at least 2 lesser scaups (a male and a female or
immature), 1 female or immature ring-necked duck, and a first-winter
Iceland gull.

However, I looked again at the gull photos, and I think they were of
two different individuals, one of which was a juvenile, first-winter
GLAUCOUS GULL (with relatively little, but some, pink on the base of
the blackish bill), and the other a juvenile, first-winter ICELAND GULL.

I can send Andy's photos on request, but PLEASE request them
privately, not on NatureNS.

JAN. 25, 2012 - Today in early afternoon I visited the Port Williams
sewage ponds: for ducks there were 7 mallards and, separately, 3
common goldeneyes (1m,2f/imm); and the single gull on the ice there
was a first-winter light beige/whitish glaucous gull, presumably the
same one photographed there yesterday by Andy Dean. A second gull
that could have been the Iceland gull flew over but then disappeared.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
