Liz and all, one very helpful identification mark is the ornamented  
beak on the redheads, resembling the ring-necked duck (which should  
be renamed "ring-billed duck") -- the tip is conspicuously black with  
a white ring behind it.  Otherwise the female redhead is a difficult
