Hi all
Join us Tues. Mar 6 for our next presentation of the Pictou Co. =
Naturalists Club at 6:30 pm in the program room of the New Glasgow =
Library. Guest speaker will be John Klymko and the topic will be =
Maritime Butterfly Atlas: highlights of the first 2 years.=20
Launched in 2010, the Maritimes Butterfly Atlas is a 5-year citizen =
science project that documents butterfly occurrence in the Maritimes. =
The first two years of the effort has produced nearly 6,000 records. =
Highlights include a new species for the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia =
checklists, and documentation of a significant range expansion for a =
Gulf of The St. Lawrence endemic species. Join John Klymko, Atlas =
director, for a 45-minute presentation to learn more about this =
important conservation effort. John has given both a talk to our group =
in 2010 and also a field trip in July 2011, so it will be nice to =
welcome him back to Pictou Co. The project is always looking for more =
volunteers to gather more important data and you may find that you might =
be in position to contribute to this citizen science project.
Hope to see you there. Note in event of a school closure because of a =
snowstorm the event may be cancelled so stayed tuned if the weather is =
iffy. Come on out and bring a friend.=20

cheers
Ken
