I walked the Miner's Marsh trail along the Cornwallis River in Kentville in mid-afternoon: 9 crows seen, 4 of them foraging for what? on the surface of the melting ice in the cattail marsh; 1 song sparrow singing; and I enjoyed liberating gorgeous seeds from common milkweed pods near the bridge over the river, along with cattail seeds (Typha) that were in bunches where they had been left on the gravel trail by former recreators. I did a long drive-about today doing the eagle nests etc. but saw no early robins nor grackles nor red-winged blackbirds. In and along the Habitant River just upstream of the Canning Aboiteau at high tide were about 135 Canada geese + 2 male common mergansers + a female common goldeneye + a male American wigeon.
