MARCH 29, 2012 - At the home feeders, no sign of the Norway rat for
the past couple of days, but a red squirrel was there today.
Yesterday a goldfinch showed faint patches of yellow in the neck
areas. Singing birds include cardinal, mourning dove, and of course
song sparrows.

Today again I checked the raven nest in the pines just north of the
Acadia Arena. Still I could not see any raven sitting on/in the
nest, but while I was there a raven slowly flew over the nest a
couple of times and then the same or different raven landed on the
nest rim (and I left the area).

MARCH 30, 2012 - At that raven nest just n. of Acadia Arena, today a
raven was in/on the nest and sitting deeply, quite possibly
incubating? And the probable mate also flew in and landed at the
nest while I was looking up at the nest.

And in Canning, just west of the Gibson/Borden house, count two
planted pines along Main St. and look up to see this year's raven
nest, which has a single raven sitting as if incubating. Glenys &
Wilma Gibson tell me that up to five ravens have been seen right
there. The adults produced 2 or 3 young last year in the pine closer
to the house; thus perhaps some of the extra ravens are the
undispersed yearlings?

I checked two bald eagle nests:

(1) cliff nest at Blomidon (n. of Mill Creek, well south of Blomidon
Prov. Park): an adult b. eagle was sitting in nest as if incubating; and

(2) Canard River mouth nest at Starr's Point on private land of
Seaview Poultry Farm: no eagles visible there.

Van Nostrand's Pond (newer, D.U.Can.)(Starr's Pt.): 2 pairs of Canada
geese.

Canard Pond: 1 male gadwall, 3 n. pintails (1m with 1f, + 1 more m.).

Saxon St. Pond: now fully flooded (except upstream across road) -- 4
c. mergansers (1m with 1f, + 2 more f/imm?).

Canning Aboiteau: no geese at all.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
