Ange, I believe that the n. cardinal is a species for which both  
sexes can sing, but I think the female sings much less often than the  
male?  Does anyone know?  Has anyone seen a female sing?  I'd like to  
know this for other species, too, like purple finch (re brown- 
plumaged birds singing in Spring -- imm. males? or females?), rose- 
breasted grosbeaks, goldfinches, et al.  Cheers from Jim
