APRIL 14, 2012 - On Pat's and my walk in our neighbourhood, the
garden flowers were striking, compared with previous days, especially
regarding the crocuses, which are now everywhere in good numbers.
But I still have seen only a couple of honey bees. Also Forsythia
is starting to bloom, plus lots of small blue scillas and/or their
look-alikes.

For some new news on honey bees and colony collapse syndrome, check
out Bob Fournier's "Science Corner" of about 2 or 3 Wednesdays ago,
on cbc.ca/informationmorningns/sciencecorner/ .

White-flowering magnolia trees are starting to bloom now, and the
pink-flowered trees will follow in a few days.

APRIL 15, 2012 - "Cheeseburger" calls of black-capped chickadees at
home in Wolfville yesterday and today.

Stella's Pond: no change with Can. goose incubating on island nest
plus its mate? on the pond's water.

Gesner's Pond: one lovely adult great blue heron (and another one
seen flying s. of Port Williams).

Kidston's Pond: one pair of Canada geese plus about 15 ring-necked
ducks (all of them males, not a single female) + 3 mallards.

Port Williams sewage ponds: only a single black duck, and 6+ male red-
winged blackbirds + a song sparrow.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
