Dear members of NatureNS,

I've just gone through some accumulated bouncing messages (the ones from
you folks that the Chebucto Majordomo e-mail server rejects). A bunch
of them are from "non-subscribers." You may be following NatureNS, but
you can't post to it unless you are subscribed with the e-mail address
from which you post messages. It's a bit tricky these days because a lot
of us have more than one e-mail address.

And of course there's the regular bunch of "<dot>php" links (a no-no)
and "help" in the subject line. And if you happen to be sending a
message to a bunch of different addresses and use the old BCC trick --
that doesn't work either (the Chebucto server likes to be named out
front, on the To: line; but beware -- it doesn't like to be crowded in
with more than a few other destinations).

Anyway, my message to you is that if your post doesn't show up, there's
probably a good reason for it.

Today, I approved some wayward messages and talked to a few of you in
person about why things aren't happening for you. The weirdest one is a
pure fluke: the spam catcher doesn't allow the phrase "over<space>18"
and the message that was rejected was a list of observed birds that
included the line "Black-bellied Plover<space>18."

One of the great things about this forum is that it's pretty much
self-regulating. The recent (and ongoing) discussion about discussing
issues -- such as the Bedford Basin infill -- is a good example. You
people make my job very easy.

Thanks, and (as Paul would say) have a happy spring,
Doug
