On Friday I had the great pleasure of being up in the hard woods (those that
aren't clear cut) of Higgens Mountain (in back of Folly Lake) and saw the
most spectacular number of Spring Beauty and Trout Lily ever in my life. The
woods were white as far as the eye could see. It looked like a light snow fall
on the ground. On the very top of the mountain the Dutchmans breeches
were in bloom in their wonderful clumps. They were just recently in bloom. In
places all three were in bloom together. Every now and again the wind came
up to blow away the black flies. I've heard that this is a bumper year for
them.
In birds we saw lots of robins, I photographed my Myrtle warbler in the same
area as last year and later saw a mature porcupine and just before the
quarry at Folly Lake I saw a mature bald eagle in a tree. In fifty years I have
never observed a bald eagle sitting in a tree in Wentworth. When mentioning
it to a friend of mine she mentioned that there is a nest across from the
Truck driving school near Debert on the old highway.
A great afternoon of enjoying nature.

but with our understandings and our hearts.
