	This morning, over the sounds of a nearby bagpipe and enthusiastic 
throngs attending the Bluenose Marathon,  I heard the high thin song 
of a Bay-breasted Warbler, singing from one of the big maples on the 
grounds of St. George's Church, aka "The Round Church", in north end 
Halifax.  It took me quite a while to find the bird, a lovely male; 
the trees are really leafing out now.  It's the first one I've seen 
in several years, and hardly a species I would expect in downtown Halifax!

	When I got home, there was a Red-eyed Vireo singing from one of the 
big elms which line my street in central Halifax.  It's lovely to see 
and hear these birds as they return ...
