Happy Queen Victoria's birthday;

Jim Edsall and I visited a few bogs in the Prospect Peninsula and Terence
Bay areas today. Many signs of the early spring:

- Red Maples are leafing out locally, two weeks ahead of schedule.
- Purple Finches have been feeding young for three days now.
- Lots of Rhodora in bloom, of course, but today we also had Cloudberry
(Bake-Apple), Sheep Laurel, Labrador Tea, and Starflower.
- The only leps we saw were Brown Elfin and Spring Azure (oh, and Tiger
Swallowtail and Clouded Sulphur)
- We had a pair of bluets (no ID, but any species would be very early -
photo taken)
- A young Wood Frog that was half way to fully grown
- A Broad-winged Hawk carrying food (a big snake) - I never confirmed that
species here during the atlas
- Two Turkey Vultures being harassed by crows along the edge of Prospect
Bay -- third local record.

And all this in only 2 1/5 hours. A great morning.

Cheers,

Blake
