Blake,

It's most likely a male of one of the species in the 
Northern/Boreal/Vernal complex (E. annexum/boreale/vernale), all of 
which could be expected in May in NS (according to Paulson's new 
guide). Unfortunately, they're virtually indistinguishable from 
photographs, requiring examination of the genitalia with a hand lens 
or dissecting scope...
