   Last weekend I was impressed by the large white patches of flowering =
Wild Calla (a.k.a. Water-arum, or Calla palustris) along the abandoned =
(and never fully finished) marine railway in Cumberland County. They =
were the largest patches of this conspicuous marsh plant I've seen =
anywhere.=20
   Interestingly, the plant occupies largely man-made wetland habitat =
here; namely flooded ditches along the 1891 engineering marvel and wet =
areas where streams cross the 27 km structure. A considerable acreage of =
abutting Crown land has been proposed for protection under the "15 =
Percent by 2015" initiative=20
