Here is a list of moths encountered last night on the wing in NS for June
8th .

 

Sphinx - 

Smerinthus cerisyi(1) May 29-July 29

Lapara bombycoides(2) June 8- July 30

Sphinx poecila(5)May 24-July29

Sphinx kalmiae(1)June 16-Aug 5

 

Saturniids

A.polyphemus (2)June 7- Aug 4

H. cecropia(1) June 4-July 11

H.columbia(1)June 16- July 4 ( this is a early record for H.c.columbia -
only other early record was June 3 1998 for PEI ) * we had a early spring
that year too *

A.luna(1)May 31-July 24

D.rubicunda(10+)May 28- Aug 16

 

Also included are known flight time ranges for each species in NS from The
Lepidoptera of NS - Ferguson ,1955

 

*Just of note don't forget that July 23-29 2012 is National Moth Week ! !
