It's sad and quite remarkable that the mother and babies were both at/
in the nest cavity/box together (and that the mother was killed, as
well), since the ducklings leave the nest site together very soon
after they have all hatched and dried off, never to return.

Ken McKenna always reports lots of hoodies in fall? in various places
in Pictour County. Bernard Forsythe in King's County usually finds
and monitors at least a few hoodie nests every year in both natural
cavities and nest-boxes.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
