Hi all,
Thanks, Ken, for your report. Hughie and I did our swift watch last night =
in Oxford, at the old free-standing chimney. We waited and waited and were =
beginning to think the swifts had abandoned this chimney when one appeared =
out of nowhere and dropped down the chimney without a sound, at 8:59. After=
that, 6 more straggled in. Most were silent entries but 2 circled a few ti=
mes, chittering to each other. The last bird entered very quietly at 9:26 w=
hen it was almost too dark to see.
Conditions were perfect for our count: 20C, no wind, no cloud cover. Also s=
een were 2 Common Nighthawks foraging overhead, as well as a couple of bats=
(likely Little Brown Bats?) foraging around the yard. There were more than=
enough mosquitoes to go around.

Hi all
In the first of 4 "fall" swift watches at Temperance St. School in New Glas=
gow on July 25, I counted 84 Swifts enter the chimney just after dusk. The=
first bird in was 8:56 and the last two at 9:12. The majority entered betw=
een 9:02-9:03. My observation period was 8:35-9:17. It was 19C , a moderat=
e breeze and there was 60-70% high, thin cloud cover.
cheers
Ken
