of detergent
Interesting info on the survival of ticks. I have also done some experimentation and found that they do not seem easily drowned in soapy water. My own modus operandi is to drop them into a small lidded jar of alcohol where they die quite quickly. I use the same method to do away with bark scorpions while down in Arizona. Although I usually just toss the scorpions outdoors when I find one wandering in the house, if I've been stung, I do sometimes kill and keep the culprit for my own reference. They die pretty much immediately upon submersion.
