ughie and I started our Oxford swift watch last night at 8:29 as well, with=
great conditions (winds calm, 21 degrees and no cloud cover). It wasn=E2=
=80=99t until 8:48 that we saw a swift, which appeared seemingly out of now=
here and entered the freestanding chimney without a sound. This seems to be=
the norm for this roost site. Three more surprised us at 8:59 (also silent=
entries) but we didn=E2=80=99t see any more swifts by the time we left at =
9:15. So, it=E2=80=99s a grand total of 4 swifts for this count. We also co=
unted 3 nighthawks foraging overhead for much of the evening.=0A=C2=A0=0AIn=
Sussex, NB not a single swift entered the roost chimney that the birds had=
been using earlier this year. We aren=E2=80=99t yet sure why that is. In H=
ampton, NB Richard Blacquiere counted 10 entries, down from his previous co=
unts of 40-50 birds. Swifts are definitely on the move. =0A=C2=A0=0AAlly=0A=
