Hi All=0ALast night I went to the Cornwallis River to volunteer with=0Athe =
lads doing the fish =A0study there. I was shocked with what I saw.=0AThe wa=
ter is warm, 20 C as a guess, the lads were fishing with worms=0Aand big ho=
oks with big barbs on them. Good if you were going to fry the fish.=0AThey =
were extremely rough with the fish. They caught 8 brook trout=0Abetween 16 =
- 24 cms so they were small. They put them in a pail with maybe=0A12 in of =
water. When I looked one had already died and I wouldn't be selling=0Ainsur=
ance to any of the rest. They were quite a piece from where they done=0Athe=
tagging - they had to carry them and the temp was mid 20s.=0ATo my knowled=
ge the study is a joint thing with Acadia University and=0Athe Department o=
f Fisheries. Hard to believe these folks would do thing like=0Athat but see=
ing is believing.=0AIf studies like this are going to be done, the operator=
s need be shown=0Aproper methods. The lads are good lads but just weren't t=
aught proper respect=0Afor the fish. Not that there isn't plenty experts on=
=A0handling fish in Nova Scotia.=0AThere is not good tagging fish that wil=
l die.=0AThey told me they had tagged 250 fish and only had 3 recaptures - =
that with=0Afishing the same part of the river nearly every day. One fellow=
said Now I know=0Athe reason why.=0AHope they will improve the situation.=
