This is a question for Paul MacDonald, or others: What is a "hole" in a lake (or on a lakeshore) in fishing lingo?
I am well aware of fishing (or swimming) holes in a river, places where the water is deep. Whitewater canoeists and kayakers have a different meaning for the word "hole," also referred to as stoppers, rollers, or hydraulics.
But a "hole" on a lakeshore? The reason I am asking is that on a recent outing we discovered a sign on the shore of a lake (Bad Lake, Lunenburg Co.) identifying it as "Virgil's Hole." The sign had been placed there in his memory....
