AUG. 24, 2012 - WOLFVILLE HARBOUR with tide out in mid-afternoon: at
least 5 willets, about 7+ greater yellowlegs, and 70+ peeps, plus a
lot of black ducks and a few mallards "eating mud", which really
means paddling and pushing their beaks through the mud and straining
it for organic stuff and critters ("The Yummy Muds of Minas", to
quote Sherman Bleakney and expert mud-guru!)(this of course is why
the shorebirds are passing through here and fattening up right now),
plus about 12 ring-billed gulls with muddy legs (same for the
yellowlegs with brown legs).

But no sign of the juvenile YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT HERON that Richard
Stern found and photographed there yesterday evening.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
