Mike, thanks for both notes -- those were very helpful -- AND your  
mention of yards makes me ask, what is relationship between a yard  
and a yard-arm? -- latter is one of my favourite words, part of the  
"rule" some have of not partaking of alcohol until the Sun is below  
the yard-arm (a boom?)" -- Who started this interesting subject? --  
Dave?? -- and thanks to all who answered my questions -- my dad was a  
sailor, but it didn't rub off on me, who loves canoes and their ilk,  
but I did learn the hard way what a boom was, and why it was called a  
boom! (followed by an expletive from me!!).  Cheers from Jim in
