To get to the water it is necessary to portage the canoe about 200m across an old pasture. Hasn't seen a cow in maybe 10 years. The old grass is matted into a thick layer. As I walked along I was susprised by the number of crickets. Little black fellows jumping everywhere. Perhaps birds would eat them but didn't see any in the field. Lots of mosquitos and midges out on the lake but they were peaceful! A pleasant afternoon.
