--e89a8f503c58b13f5404cf2d44d7 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Martine took today a day's vacation and we hiked the Terence Bay coastal barrens, a 10 minute drive away. It was a balmy 12 degrees, calm, with the odd juxtaposition of late-flowering goldenrod, aster, hawkweed, and clover, while Snow Buntings flew overhead. Kelp flies buzzed in the seaweed washed ahore (and there are tiny Adelgid flies still floating around our garden), while gulls and cormorants loafed on rocky reefs. We stopped frequently, and ate rosehips and wild apples. There were few birds on the ocean -- a flock of Red-breasted Mergansers, singles of Horned Grebe, Black Guillemot, and Common Loon, and scattered eider. Swells from earlier windy days broke on shore, the rocks were warm, and there was a profound sense of languor.
