NOV. 27, 2012 - Local ponds nearly all ice-covered. SILVER LAKE, LAKEVILLE, still open water, no geese, but 6 hooded mergansers (3m, 3f/imm). HABITANT RIVER in CANNING: 4 f/imm hooded mergansers, 35 mallards, 2 black ducks. Tonight is a FULL MOON, but it's at Apogee, which means it's distant from the Earth, and ergo it appears to be relatively small to our eyes. Apogee's opposite is Perigee, when Moon is closest to the Earth -- recall the huge tides resulting just two weeks ago (see the BNS Calendar to refresh your memory -- 11.1 m tidal amplitude today, vs. 16.2 m on Nov.15 -- that's quite a difference).
