It was just before the time change when it was still light at 5:15. I spent about 10 minutes watching a large falcon soaring around the two towers of Purdy's Wharf and occasionally up over Barrington. There was a lot of movement from starlings, pigeons, gulls, etc. trying to stay on the opposite side of the buildings from it. I have merlins that nest in the trees around my house every summer and this was definitely bigger than a merlin, and a peregrine seemed to be the only thing that fit. I wish I had been carrying binoculars with me. In mid-summer I was walking to work down Argyle street and saw a similar bird soaring around the Maritime Centre, and it actually perched one one of the corners of the building, and again based on the size I suspect it was a peregrine.
