This may be the same Lapwing reported by James Hirtle and Dorothy Poole =
at Hirtle's Beach about 1:30 today, which took off westward, and as Eric =
Mills surmised is probably "waiting to be found" in W. Lunenburg Co. or =
E. Queen's Co.

I saw the Lapwing in the far end of the marsh behind the beach about =
3pm. Alas, as I was studying it in the scope an adjacent Herring Gull =
put it up and pursued it across the flats, the inlet and the W. side of =
Great Island, over the trees and towards Vogler's Cove. I was able to =
follow it in the scope until it disappeared with a sense of =
disappointment that it was not able to linger. The timing seems about =
right for it to be the same bird.

Other shorebirds close by were 2 Black-bellied Plover, 1 Sanderling, 5 =
Dunlin. The 2 Ruddy Turnstone, 8 White-rumps, and 3 Red Knot seen about =
a week ago seem to have moved on.

Sylvia Fullerton
Broad Cove, Lun. Co.
