Parking is available off =20 Highland Avenue, on Acadia Street, and at the parking area around the =20= Robie Tufts Nature Centre. Everyone is welcome. This will also be the Annual General Meeting. The main presentation will be Tracking Nova Scotia=92s Most Elusive =20 Shrews by Dr. Donald Stewart, Acadia University. I will talk a bit =20 about the diversity and natural history of shrews in the province =96 =20= what species we have, where they live, and some (hopefully) =20 interesting aspects of their biology. I will talk a bit about how we =20 identify and name species of mammals and how some of my molecular =20 analyses have been used to revise the taxonomy of shrews in Atlantic =20 Canada. I will finish off the talk by talking about a new community-=20 based initiative to study habitat preferences of some of our rare =20 species by collecting shrew poop and using molecular techniques to =20 identify what species are where in the province. Dr. Stewart did his undergraduate degree at Acadia and studied the =20 feeding behaviour of shrews on Bon Portage Island. He then went on to =20= study molecular systematics and molecular evolution in shrews at the =20 University of Toronto and the Royal Ontario Museum. For his post-=20 doctoral research, he switched to studying molecular genetics of =20 mussels at Dalhousie University. As a professor at Acadia, he has =20 continued to study molecular evolution and molecular systematics in =20 shrews and mussels (and a few other species along the way).
