It was blustery in the banana belt today, as well, with temperatures
starting at -8oC and rising to -3oC, and plenty of northerly breeze most of
the time.
Mel Pothier and I did the eastern side of Yarmouth harbour, from the
northern tip, and ran down to Chebogue Point. Of particular interest might
be
(a) A House sparrow (They used to be so common!) skulking with a flock of
house finches (which now seem to be commonplace in winter along Water
Street) in a clump of Japanese knotweed, in town.
(b) A large "V" of Canada geese cruising over Water street included an
unmistakable snow goose.
(c) As the light started to fade on Chebogue Point the sound of a raven
with a sore throat issued from near Jim Trefry's farm. What flew by wasn't
a raven, though. Turned out to be a sandhill crane. Nice way to end the
count.
