Subject: Baltimore Oriole - Mahone Bay
Date: Sun=2C 30 Dec 2012 03:01:10 +0000
Hi all:
=20
I was able to see a Baltimore oriole today that has been present at 155 Cle=
arway Street in Mahone Bay. I originally was told via an email that it was=
Clairway Street=2C which does not exist. The owner of the property where =
the bird is tending has had orioles coming there since the end of November.=
The one currently present is different from one that was there the end of=
November as photos were taken that show two separate birds. This particul=
ar location has produced good birds for a number of years during the winter=
. Last winter pine warblers were present and one other species of warbler =
of which I cannot now remember. Maybe orange-crowned. Anyhow the oriole w=
as coming to a hummingbird feeder and both the owner of the property and ph=
otos of the bird showed this. I was therefore surprised to observe this or=
iole today feeding at what looked like a peanut feeder with shelled peanuts=
. I've never heard tell of orioles eating this type of food. Has anyone e=
lse observed this behaviour?

Anne Hughes had been visiting from Newfoundland and she discovered a male a=
nd female Barrow's Goldeneye at Mahone Bay about a week ago. Today I saw t=
his pair with 14 common goldeneyes right in back of For The Birds. =20
