This has been the most active year for Dovekies that I've witnessed =
along my little stretch of coast in thirteen years. They are occurring =
off Parliament Rock, Duncan Reef near Duck Reef, Ketch Harbour, Sambro =
Head, Sambro Harbour and West Pennant at the bridge. This morning there =
were about a dozen diving at Sambro Head in the shallow water. There =
were so many it looked like a school of feeding fish. This bird is not =
the slightest bit shy and a pair marched right up to me when I was at =
the outfall from the Sambro Head Salt Marsh. Another one actually came =
up on the shoreline kelp heap. I went home to get my telephoto lens but =
when I returned they had moved further out from shore. Nevertheless, I =
obtained my best ever photos of this bird using my walkabout lens. The =
Dovekie at Ketch Harbour is probably the one I put there!

Other local birds of interest are:

Peregrine Falcon, White-winged Scoter, Red-breasted Merganser, Bald =
Eagle, Common Loon, Purple Sandpipers, Black Scoters(30+), Red-necked =
Grebe
