*This Week's Sky at a Glance*

*Some night sky sights for February 8 =96 16*

On Sunday, February 10, the *Moon *will go into its New Phase meaning we
will not see it at all during the night. Expect higher high tides and lower
low tides

February is when *Orion *stands highest in the south in early evening. This
season, Orion is framed by the two brightest points in the sky: *Jupiter *h=
igh
to its upper right and *Sirius *down to its lower left.

On Saturday, February 9, the *Sun *rose at 7:33 a.m. and will set at 5:42
p.m. On Saturday, February 16, the Sun will rise at 7:23 a.m. and set at
5:52 p.m.

*This Week's Planet Roundup *

*Mercury *(magnitude =961) is having an excellent apparition in the evening
twilight. Look for it low in the west-southwest as the sky darkens. No
other point in the area is nearly so bright. A great week to look for this
not often available observation. Right there too is *Mars*, much fainter.
They're less than 1=B0 apart on Friday, February 8th; after that Mars moves
lower each day and becomes harder to spot.

*Venus *(magnitude =963.9) is buried deep in the glow of sunrise.

*Mars *(magnitude +1.2) is becoming a real challenge as it sinks lower low
into the sunset. Brighter Mercury is your marker for finding it.
Mars is currently on the far side of the Sun from us, but Mercury is
swinging around to the Sun's near side as shown by its growing size and
diminishing phase.

*Jupiter *(magnitude =962.4) dominates the high south in early evening and
the southwest later. To its left is orange *Aldebaran*. Both set around 3
a.m.

*Saturn *(magnitude +0.5) rises in the east-southeast after midnight. By
the beginning of dawn Saturn is highest in the south.

Nights*<http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap130204.html>(one-minute video)
(Namibia has some of the darkest nights visible from any continent. It is
therefore home to some of the more spectacular skyscapes, a few of which
have been captured in a time-lapse video.)
