The Northern Mockingbird that has been here in Port Hawkesbury since
November is still showing up in our back yard. It seemed to disappear
during the very cold days last week but has reappeared and looks
healthy. Feeding on blueberries and grape jelly today in the blizzard.
Also now have approximately 100 Redpolls visiting the niger feeder along
with an occasional visit from both White-winged and Red Crossbills. I
believe there are a couple of Hoary Redpolls with the Common Redpolls
but am not confident enough to say for sure. Redpolls have been around
in varying numbers since Christmas or longer.
Also 3 American Tree Sparrows, 3 Song Sparrows, 1 Robin and a small
number of House Sparrows. The House Sparrow numbers are definitely down
from the past few years. DWJ
