Thanks for the comments. Arrangements are underway to have the birds =
transported to PEI to determine the cause of death. If and when we get =
some answers, I'll post it here.

Hi there. I answered this somewhere else in nature ns but I dont =
always see my own posts for some unknown cyber reason! Murres are =
federal birds and cormorants are provincial. DNR and CWS should both =
hear about this and AVC would be the best place to do post mortem if =
they are interested. They usually are very interested..the issue is =
usually transport

Intriguing report, Andy! What a mystery.....
I wonder if the PEI Vet School has a Pathology lab which might be =
interested in pursuing this? Best contacts would probably be Helene van =
Doninck or Kathleen MacAulay to begin with.

Forgot to sign the first version of this:

Had this reported to us today from the wife of a local lobster =
fisherman: =20
"Fishermen are reporting finding salmon in their lobster traps =
in St. Mary's Bay and also many many dead seabirds floating on the =
water... Mostly Murr's and Cormorants. No apparent wounds on the =
birds... One boat reported counting over 25 dead seabirds today, this is =
something never seen before in the bay... We will attempt to determine =
what may have happened to these birds....please if anyone fishing comes =
across anything out of the ordinary bring it ashore and contact me...."
Who can perform tests on these dead birds to determine what killed =
them...there are several that have been collected and stored in a =
freezer?
