Nice job, Dave, re the photos.  The peregrine is pretty clearly what  
Cyril Coldwell used to call "duck hawk", which we now take to refer  
to the Falco peregrinus anatum subspecies, which was in very short  
supply when the captive breeding got under way -- thus many of the  
more abundant northern "tundrius" form were used, and the technology  
was gotten largely from falconry and by using the wester relative,  
the prairie falcon, as a model for learning the techniques of captive  
breeding.
